At SNSYC, we believe sailing is more than just a sport – it's a lifelong passion and an incredible way to connect with the water. We warmly welcome everyone, from complete beginners to those looking to refine their skills, to discover or deepen their love for sailing with us.
Our instruction is proudly delivered through Sail Canada's CANSail program. This nationally recognized training program is designed for progressive learning, ensuring you develop essential sailing skills, knowledge, and techniques across various boat classes and platforms. The CANSail approach is centered around safe, fun, and active on-water learning, complemented by focused onshore instruction. Get ready to experience hands-on learning that builds confidence and competence with every session!
Sessions held Monday–Friday, 9 am – 4 pm
A CANSail accredited introduction to sailing an Optimist Dinghy. With two sailors per boat, children learn the FUNdamentals of sailing in a comfortable and fun environment. Work on balance, steering, and moving the boat using the sail! Lots of games and activities for new sailors and those with limited sailing experience!
Successful completion of Opti Basic (CANSail 1) is required
Sessions held Monday–Friday, 9 am – 4 pm
A CANSail accredited course for advanced Optimist sailing. Children learn to sail by themselves! Young sailors become more independent and they continue to develop Opti Basic sailing skills while more advanced skills are gradually introduced, further building on the FUNdamentals of sailing. Fun activities and games help to solidify new skills!

Sailors build on existing FUNdamental skills, working towards skill proficiency in a variety of conditions and situations. Sailors are introduced to concepts such as reading the wind and waves, advanced boat handling, beginner racing skills and rules, and sportsmanship through on water games and activities.
Sessions are Tuesdays & Thursdays in July and August. They are 2.5 hours from 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm.
This is not an instructional session. Participants should have sailing knowledge and know how to set up a dinghy!
$20 per person for non-members. $10 per person for Senior, Social and Intermediate members. Junior Members are free. Attendees of camp programs can attend FUNSails at no additional cost during the camps for which they are registered.
Cash is accepted as payment at the session as well. If you are a member and would like to register online, please get in touch with us to obtain your discounted rate.

SNSYC offers private lessons for individuals seeking a more personalized sailing session to enhance their skills.
Each lesson is $75/hr per boat with a minimum of 3 hours. Lessons may or may not be individual, so you are welcome to split the cost and bring a friend.
